M for Montreal concluded its second edition
The band We Are Wolves win the M-Galaxie prize!

Montreal, October 17 2007 -  It was shortly after one thirty in the morning when Sébastien Nasra, co-founder of the event, climbed up on the stage of the Studio Just for Laughs, accompanied by Montreal artist Melissa Auf Der Maur (ex-Smashing Pumpkins and Hole) and by M’s British publicist Jayne Houghton, to announce the winning band of the M-Galaxie prize, presented by CBC’s Continuous Music Network.

The majority of the 37 international delegates voted for We Are Wolves, who had performed on the Cabaret stage last Monday. They were chosen among no less than 16 bands who had alternated sets with each other during the two-day export-event. The winning band walked away with $5000 to spend on a one-week European tour in May 2008. The highlight of this tour is a guaranteed participation in The Great Escape, the renowned festival that takes place in Brighton, England.

Delegates from all over the world came to witness what Montreal has got. Notable international partners such as : Glastonbury Festival (UK), Provinssirock (Finland), Sziget Festival (Hungary), Haldern Pop Festival (Germany), Oya Festivalen (Norway), International Festival of Benicassim (Spain) and South by Southwest (Austin, USA).  Equally, numerous media representatives covered the event : Mojo (UK), OOR Magazine (Netherlands), Relix Magazine (USA), Les Inrockuptibles (France), NME (UK) and Spiegel Online (Germany).

Founded as a fun project in 2006 by the Artistic Director of the Event, Sebastien Nasra (Avalanche Productions, Montreal) and no other than reputable English programmer Martin Elbourne (Glastonbury Festival, The Great Escape and co-founder with Peter Gabriel of WOMAD festival), M for Montreal has become an effective springboard for the finest selection of the best in emerging local talent. The 2006 edition of M for Montreal helped to shed light on artists such as Patrick Watson, DJ Champion, Galaxie 500, The Besnard Lakes and Taima. This year, the opportunity went to Plants & Animals, Torngat, Bloodshot Bill, Hot Springs and Creature, to only name a few.
